La Distillerie d'Ouessant


The Ouessant Distillery was born in 2016 from the passionate encounter with the island of Ouessant and the evidence that from its sea-swept soil and water, a unique drink could be produced there for the first time: whisky.

Once home to more than 100 mills, the barley plantations there inspired the meaning of this project.

From observing the island's plants, also came the idea of ​​making an anized spirit there, and from the team's taste for spices, gin and a range of beers.

Motivated by the creation of sustainable year-round jobs on the island, the production of La Distillerie d'Ouessant is ensured by Joëlle and Mathilde, perpetuating the tradition of "the island of women", as they played an important role for the island when the sailors were at sea.

Committed to the energy transition of the island - not connected to the mainland networks -, the production of La Distillerie d'Ouessant was designed "like on a boat" to optimize its processes. It uses a 100% electric heating still, and uses processes for maximum recovery of calories and water, in order to preserve the island's resources.
