Opportune 1791
A native of northern Martinique, Opportune was born a slave in 1791. A beautiful and rebellious woman, Opportune is a symbol of freedom and resilience. The brand is built around a true story and anecdotes to be discovered on our bottles.
We produce bold blends of white rums; we bottle aged rums, rums of different origins, pure cane juice rums, and molasses rums, as long as they awaken new horizons to our taste and smell receptors. Our rums are an invitation to travel. We want to share with as many people as possible the discovery of rums, their production sites, and their stories.
Opportune 1791 does not claim an identity, but represents the image of freedom. That of a "djok" woman (strong character – a Martinican expression) who, through her resilience, has led her family towards a much better future.
Phil Madkaud, founder of the brand, is one of Opportune's direct descendants.
